Internet Big Stakes Poker- Gus Hansen
Gus Hansen enjoyed an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only one to achieve last table in three of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might recall one of the largest pots in high stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. Gus secured a massive pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Gus has made many televised poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the greatest players anywhere in the world. While playing net poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. He regularly competes in the 200/400 NL maximum buy in of $40, 000. Gus usually buys in for the minimum of $16, 000 and plays very weak. He sits there waiting for a decent hand and then goes all in. I know Hansen is a great poker player but certainly not even close to the regular players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is broke, he has no reason to play at the table with the min buy in.
Buying in for the min takes almost all of the ability out of big stack poker. Hansen is supposed to be one of the greatest players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy-in for the total amount. I believe television can skew our perception of the real world every now and then. The best poker players anywhere in the world could be players you have won’t have heard of. Gus can be seen betting on web poker on Full Tilt. He usually plays in high stakes omaha eight-or-better and texas hold’em. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his skills in money games?
