Distracting Players

Do you ever receive that itch? The itch to bet, to head to the nearest betting house, to find a superior stakes casino game of Texas holdem, to sit at a Black jack table for hours on end. I love that itch. And I like to scratch it.

I also really like to watch people wager. No two poker faces seem the same. When I wager I like to believe I put on a poker face that is impenetrable. Except I know I have specific gestures. For one, the only time I smoke is when I play poker or Pontoon. And then I chain smoke. Except I chain smoke whether I am succeeding or losing, regardless of whether I’ve a excellent hand or bad.

I once bet in the weekly poker game. The game was usually 5 card draw. There was a player who played with us every week who constantly wore a hat. When he was dealt a very good hand, unconsciously, he would start touching and betting with his hat. Pointless to say, he never won.

The very best poker player I ever saw was a person who manufactured additional movements and signals at a poker table than anyone I had ever met. He was impressive in the way he dressed. Always an high-priced suit and tie, boots shined and nails manicured. He was meticulous in this manner. And he was constantly brushing his pants or holding his hands or stacking his chips in tidy little piles.

I use to study him for long periods of time. I would attempt to see if I could spot his tell. Selecting lint off his vest- did this mean he was bluffing? Arranging his chips in a very short pile – did this mean he had a very good hand?

Several years later I bumped into him inside a bar in Vegas and we had a drink. I asked him if he had been aware of all those motions he manufactured or if they have been unconscious. He informed me that every single individual thing he did at a poker table was deliberate. He said that everybody is often checking out everybody else’s poker face. They are trying to notice the the tell.

So his program was to provide them lots to think about. His thinking was if they have been pondering about him picking a piece of lint off his vest and what it meant they certain weren’t thinking about their cards.

His method was diversion. And it worked for him. By no means give up a program that functions for you.
