Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker contender on the globe by most of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His papa showed him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup everything he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely told his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the negative feedback from other people kill his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker players on the planet.

Phil began competing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a teaching period and winning was not a normal thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he destroyed many of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an immeasurable love for the game of poker. He says that he is learning every day and is very abashed about his achievements. He admits to making blunders in each game of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a regular basis.
