Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker contender on the globe by many of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching turning 1. His grandpa taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wished to learn every little thing he could about the game. He routinely told his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the detrimental feedback from others destroy his dream of being one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.

Phil began playing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a teaching period and winning wasn’t a common outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he destroyed many of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to hard work and a continuing love for poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is very abashed about his success. Phil knows he makes errors every single session of poker and always aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a normal basis.
