Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker player on the planet by many of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to learn every little thing he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He did not permit the detrimental comments from other people kill his dream of becoming one of the best poker players in the world.

Phil started playing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a teaching experience and winning wasn’t a regular thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved two final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated many of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an immeasurable love for poker. Phil says that he’s picking up skills every day and is quite humble about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making blunders in each game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Although Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he favors winning money games on a regular basis.
