Howard Lederer grew up in a family of 5 in which he enjoyed betting on various card games when he was young. He found himself getting very aggressive in these particular card games while competing against his dad. After finishing secondary school, Howard made a decision to place higher education on hold for a bit and relocated to New York to participate in some big-time chess. While competing in chess, he was introduced to a poker game going on in the back of the room. Howard’s 1st two years were rough as he would play countless hours and lose a majority of the time. He made some additional cash by becoming an assistant for the poker enthusiasts. He believed he might better his game by adjusting his life outside of poker. He made an attempt to get more sleep and focus attention more on poker.

The definite advancement in his game happened when he began betting at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the greatest gamblers would frequently challenge one another. He was able to access a few of the greatest minds in chess. With their assistance, Howard would sharpen his cunning thinking skills. He used these strategy ideas in the game of NL Texas Holdem.

He also helped his sibling Annie Duke learn the game of poker. Annie Duke was a superb student of the game as she constantly asked questions about how to make the proper choice. Howard Lederer told Annie to move out to Sin City and compete in the World Series of Poker competition. Annie Duke is one of the greatest women players the poker world today. He moved to Vegas in 1993 and participated in cash games for the successive 10 years. When the World Poker Tournament grew in popularity, he decided to play more tournaments.
