Gus Hansen experienced an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only participant to achieve closing game in three of the competitions. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may recall one of the largest pots in big stakes poker history up against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen secured a huge pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has made many tv poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the greatest bettors in the world. While competing in online poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. Gus frequently plays in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy-in of $40, 000. Gus usually buys-in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very poorly. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then goes all in. I accept that Gus is an excellent poker player but not even close to the regular players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is bankrupt, he has absolutely no reason to play at the game with the minimum buy-in.

Playing for the minimum takes most of the ability out of deep stack poker. Hansen is supposed to be one of the greatest players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy in for the full dollar value. I believe tv can skew our perception of the real world every now and then. The best players anywhere in the world may be guys you have will not have heard about. Gus can be seen betting on net poker on Full Tilt. He generally plays in big stakes omaha high and Holdem. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a competition player. Can he back up his talents in cash rounds?
